Launching Of Pakistan Polio Seroprevalance Survey, 2010

The Directorate of Research and Development at Khyber Medical University in Collaboration with the Aga Khan University and Pakistan Medical Research Council, is conducting the “Pakistan Polio Seroprevalance Survey, 2010” Khyber Medical University is responsible for the Khyber-Pukhtunkhawa component of the Survey.

The project took off today at 0900 hrs at “Hujra Farooq Shah” in the thickly populated Bhana Mari area of Peshawar. The team supervisor Mr. Nisar Ahmed and Assistant Director Research KMU, Dr. Zohaib along with the survey field team Dr. Iqbal Wahid, Dr. Zia Ul Ain Sabiha, Dr. Uzma Syed and Dr, Ruqayya Sana, the two phlebotomists and the community mobilisers were all present at the survey site.

The survey involves blood taking from children of age 6-11 months and 36-47 months and interviews from the guardian/Head of the household. It is planned that 15-20 samples would be taken each day and the survey would continue until the team has collected the required number (400) of blood samples.
