KMU-AKU- MSF (F) Collaborative Workshop on Paediatric Emergency Management held on 03-04 Jul 2012 at LRH

Khyber Medical University (KMU) in collaboration with the Aga Khan University (AKU), Karachi and Medicins Sans Frontiers (France) organized a two day workshop on “Pediatric Emergency Management” at the Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Auditorium-Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), Peshawar. This workshop was an extension of the KMU collaboration with Aga Khan and Johns Hopkins University under the “Johns Hopkins – International Collaborative Programme on Injury and Trauma Research”
Prof. Dr. Akhtar Ali, Dean PGMI Peshawar was the chief guest at the inaugural session, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah VC KMU and senior staff of the LRH, Peshawar was also present at the occasion. Prof. Dr. Akhtar Ali lauded the efforts of KMU under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah, in bringing to fore the issues of capacity development among doctors working in the Emergency Departments of the Tertiary care hospitals in Peshawar. He formally opened the workshop and urged the candidates to make the most of this valuable opportunity provided to them by KMU. He said such workshops should be held more frequently so that the participants can remain updated with new advances in the field.
According to details the workshop included interactive lectures and hands on practice and some of the topics covered in the workshop included; updates on PALS, neonatal resuscitation, rhythm abnormalities, airway management, intra-osseous infusion, dealing with ply traumas and research need assessment in pediatrics. The team of facilitators for this workshop, headed by Dr. Jabeen Fayyaz came from the Aga Khan University “Accident and Emergency Department” and participants included nominees from all the major Tertiary care hospitals of Peshawar including KTH, LRH, HMC and RMI. A total of 20 participants participated in the workshop.
In the concluding session the certificate distribution ceremony was held, Special Secretary Health Prof. Dr. Nurul Iman was the chief guest while Prof. Dr. Arshad Javed Chief Executive LRH was the guest of honour at the occasion. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Hafizullah and senior staff of KMU were also present. Prof. Dr. Nurul Iman appreciated KMU for conducting such important workshops and developing human resource capacity in the province. Prof. Dr. Arshad Javed reiterated his commitment to the cause of developing a world class Accident and Emergency Department at LRH and sought help from KMU and AKU for development of staff for that department. Prof. Dr. Hafizullah speaking at the occasion emphasized on continuous professional development for medical professionals and committed that KMU will not only continue its efforts for development of human resources in all the relevant fields but will also ensure to provide all possible support to the partners in different shapes and fields
