KMU Celebrates World Physical Therapy Day
The Chairperson of Health Standing Committee Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Rabia Basri has said that the importance of physiotherapy is very prominent and that physiotherapists who are serving rare services in providing relief to humanity are no less than in other fields of medicine. The ability and skills of KMU graduates are being recognized at all levels and with the spirit, you are celebrating today this event is proud for all of us. She expressed these views while addressing a special ceremony at the World Physical Therapy Day, organized by Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPMR). In addition to the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, Dean Allied Health Sciences Dr. Haider Darin, Director IPMR Dr. Irfanullah, heads of various institutions and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.
Rabia Basri said that there is no shortage of talent in our new generation and we should never be disappointed in any case. We have to stand for Pakistan and we have many hopes and aspirations for our young people. She said that she would raise all the problems, including job opportunities, and especially to ensure paid house job and she would soon contact the concerned authorities in this regard.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq addressed the ceremony, saying that the KMU has given the most importance to physiotherapy since its inception. Previously, physiotherapy was a three-year diploma but now it is a five-year doctoral program. He said that KMU had opened physiotherapy institutes in different parts of the province and we should create graduates according to market demand, whereas institutions that are opening physiotherapy wholesale are increasing problems. Relevant authorities should take notice of the mushroom growth of Physiotherapy as it is a respected and significant profession.
He said that KMU has launched Ph.D. programs besides MS in physiotherapy which has added to the sector's importance. He said that the purpose of this day is to highlight the importance of physiotherapy in society. The renowned Physiotherapists of the province Dr. Muhammad Bin Afsar Jan and Dr. Haider Darain were also honored with special awards, while amongst students of IPMR (1st position), KMU-IHS Mardan (2nd position), and the School of Health Sciences Peshawar (3rd position) in the model and scientific competitions were also awarded the cash prizes and certificates.
