One Day Workshop on Revamping Curriculum & Education in Allied Health Sciences on 12-07-2012

Khyber Medical University (KMU)  arranged a one day workshop on “Revamping curriculum and education in allied health sciences” at KMU Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar to deliberate on the problems like curriculum, training opportunities, service structure and job opportunities in the fields of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences.
Participants from PHSA, PGPI, PGCN, IPM&R and PIPOS deliberated on the issues of curriculum, training and job opportunities. Each group after detailed discussion presented their recommendations to the participants. The main objective of the workshop was to discuss and made recommendations in modification in curriculum, creation of posts especially at district level so that optimum health services facilities provided to the community at their door step.
    VC KMU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah was the chief guest, while Director AA&QA Prof. Dr. Shad Mohammad and Registrar Dr. Fazal Mehmud were also present at the occasion.  Prof. Dr. Muhamamd HAfizullah said KMU believes in developing a multi-dimensional comprehensive health care approach encompassing all the four elements of health i.e. prevention, promotion, curative intervention and rehabilitation.  We aspire to include a health care team approach at all levels of health care delivery for a comprehensive health care delivery system.
He said KMU identified the gaps in our health delivery system and pioneered the idea of filling these gaps. Nursing and allied health professions are very important components of health which have not been given their due importance. Prof. Hafizullah said KMU after its establishment prioritized nursing and allied health education and immediately started degree courses in nursing and physiotherapy and is planning to start similar courses for paramedics in due course of time. At the end Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah distributed the certificates among the participants
