Quality of teaching and learning in the higher education institutions of Pakistan has been under a great criticism for long. The emergence of private institutions and their mushroom like growth is the result of declining confidence of a common man on the public sector universities in Pakistan. Keeping this fact in view, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan established Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) in Islamabad and 10 Quality Enhancement Cells (QEC) at various public sector universities in Pakistan.
It was also decided to establish QECs in all the public sector universities in the next phase of the programme. Later, HEC also included the name of KMU in the 3nd phase of the QEC establishment programmes. KHYBER MEDICAL UNIVERSITY, Peshawar, realizing the importance of this cell, decided to establish it in the university in 2009 for enhancing quality of teaching ,learning and research of various programmes of the university. The cell has started functioning and a road map has been identified.
